Follow signs to passport control immediately on landing
Have onward boarding pass and hotel/address ready for questions
Small terminal, queues move quickly. Most arrivals from within the Schengen area have no passport check at all. Non-Schengen arrivals (UK, US, others) average around 25 minutes. Automated e-gate lanes are not available — all processing is manual.
Transit into the city
40 min
Terravision or SIT Bus Shuttle to Roma Termini in about 40 minutes (6 euros, every 30 min). No direct rail link. Buy tickets online to save a euro or two. Taxis run a fixed rate of around 30 euros but peak-hour traffic on the GRA ring road can push the journey over an hour.
Explore Rome

3 hours is too tight at FCO. Between immigration (39 min average), the Leonardo Express (32 min each way), and security buffer, there's no meaningful time left in Rome.
Tight but possible from FCO with fast immigration. Leonardo Express to Termini in 32 min - a quick espresso and walk near Termini is feasible. Not worth it from CIA.
Enough for the Colosseum exterior, Roman Forum, or a walk through Trastevere. Leonardo Express each way is 32 min; Metro from Termini reaches most sights in 5-10 min.
Rome at its best: Vatican Museums, Colosseum, Campo de' Fiori, or Trastevere for lunch. Plan 32 min each way on the Leonardo Express and enjoy a full 6-7 hours in the city.
