The insider's guide, from travelers who've actually been through.
Ciampino is a compact, single-terminal airport 15 km southeast of Rome, serving almost exclusively Ryanair and Wizz Air flights from across Europe. There is no rail connection; both Terravision and SIT Bus Shuttle run to Roma Termini in around 40 minutes for approximately 6 euros one way, with cheaper rates when booked online in advance. For layovers under 5 hours, the bus round trip leaves too little time in Rome to be worth the effort: staying airside is the more practical choice. Verify transport fares before you travel, as prices change periodically.
