Your flight touched the EU or UK

Departed from there on any airline, or arrived there on a European carrier.

You arrived 3+ hours late

Or the flight was cancelled with less than 14 days’ notice, or you were bumped.

It wasn’t “extraordinary”

Airline faults like staffing or technical issues qualify; severe weather and air-traffic strikes usually don’t.

Common questions

How much compensation can I get for a delayed flight?

Under EU261, you can claim €250 for short flights, €400 for medium-haul, and €600 for long-haul flights over 3,500 km, as long as you arrived at least 3 hours late and the delay was the airline’s fault.

I missed my connection because of a delay — can I claim?

Yes. If the first flight’s delay caused you to miss a connection on the same booking and you reached your final destination 3+ hours late, you may be owed compensation based on the total journey distance.

How long do I have to make a claim?

It varies by country, but most allow claims for flights up to 3 years in the past. It’s worth checking old delayed or cancelled flights too.

Does it cost anything to claim?

No. AirHelp works on a no-win, no-fee basis, so you only pay a percentage if the claim succeeds and you get paid. Checking your eligibility is free.

What about flights outside the EU, like in the US?

EU261 covers flights departing the EU/UK on any airline and flights arriving in the EU/UK on European airlines. Other regions have their own rules — AirHelp can check whether your specific flight qualifies for free.
