Your layover plan

Arrive & Immigration
~30 min · YVR
  • Follow signs to passport control immediately on landing
  • Have onward boarding pass and hotel/address ready for questions
  • YVR has US Preclearance, so passengers connecting to the US clear US customs before boarding in the Transborder terminal, allow 60 min. Canadian and foreign arrivals use Primary Inspection Kiosks (PIK), typically 20 to 30 min.
Transit into the city
30 min

Canada Line station is connected to the terminal, Level 4 (follow signs after arrival). Trains run 5am to 1am, every 6 to 8 min during the day. A CA$5 AddFare applies leaving YVR (rises to CA$6.50 July 2026).

Explore Vancouver
~2h 30m of free time
We recommend you stay airside: Vancouver International is efficient, but city transit still takes time.
Return to YVR
30 min back to airport
  • Leave enough buffer - trains run to a schedule and can be delayed
  • Buy your return ticket in advance if possible
  • Set an alarm 60 min before your departure gate closes
Back through security
~30 min buffer before gate
  • Re-entry security at YVR typically takes 10-20 min
  • Check your gate - it may have changed while you were out
  • Liquids bought in the city cannot pass security - finish or bin them
