Your layover plan

Arrive & Immigration
~45 min · ZRH
  • Follow signs to passport control immediately on landing
  • Have onward boarding pass and hotel/address ready for questions
  • Schengen arrivals skip passport control entirely. Non-Schengen queues are usually efficient; eGates are available for EU, EFTA and Swiss residents in Terminal 2.
Transit into the city
35 min

S-Bahn S2, S16, S24 or IC/IR trains run from ZRH station (underneath arrivals) to Zurich HB in 9 to 13 min, CHF 7, every 5 to 10 min. Tram 10 runs from terminal to Hauptbahnhof in about 35 min for the same ZVV fare.

Explore Zurich
~2h of free time
We recommend you stay airside: Zurich Airport is efficient, but short exits still feel rushed.
Return to ZRH
35 min back to airport
  • Leave enough buffer - trains run to a schedule and can be delayed
  • Buy your return ticket in advance if possible
  • Set an alarm 70 min before your departure gate closes
Back through security
~35 min buffer before gate
  • Re-entry security at ZRH typically takes 10-20 min
  • Check your gate - it may have changed while you were out
  • Liquids bought in the city cannot pass security - finish or bin them
