Your layover plan

Arrive & Immigration
~45 min · VIE
  • Follow signs to passport control immediately on landing
  • Have onward boarding pass and hotel/address ready for questions
  • Schengen arrivals walk straight out. Non-Schengen (US, UK, Asia, Middle East) clears passport control at Terminal 3 arrivals, typically 20 to 45 min depending on flight bank.
Transit into the city
25 min

CAT is fastest at 16 min to Wien Mitte but €14.90 one-way. S-Bahn S7 is the value pick: 25 min to Wien Mitte for €4.30 with a standard VOR ticket, runs every 30 min. ÖBB Railjet only stops at Hauptbahnhof but matches CAT on price via single-fare VOR.

We recommend you stay airside: Vienna Airport transit plus security make short exits risky.
Return to VIE
25 min back to airport
  • Leave enough buffer - trains run to a schedule and can be delayed
  • Buy your return ticket in advance if possible
  • Set an alarm 60 min before your departure gate closes
Back through security
~35 min buffer before gate
  • Re-entry security at VIE typically takes 10-20 min
  • Check your gate - it may have changed while you were out
  • Liquids bought in the city cannot pass security - finish or bin them
