Your layover plan

Arrive & Immigration
~30 min · RAK
  • Follow signs to passport control immediately on landing
  • Have onward boarding pass and hotel/address ready for questions
  • No eGates. Standard queues serve all passports, and waits can exceed 60 minutes when several morning budget flights arrive together. Arrival is smoother in the late afternoon and evening.
Transit into the city
25 min

Bus 19 runs to Jemaa el-Fna every 20 min for 50 MAD (ticket valid 15 days with free return), taking about 35 minutes. Fixed-rate taxis are 100 MAD by day and 150 MAD at night from the airport rank.

Explore Marrakech
~2h 25m of free time
A 3-6 hour layover in Marrakech is one of the best airport-to-city ratios in Africa - Menara Airport is only 6km from the medina. Bus 19 runs to Djemaa el-Fna for 30 MAD ($3, 15 min). Or taxi for 80-100 MAD ($8-10). Spend your time in the square: watch the performers, buy fresh orange juice (4 MAD), eat at the food stalls in the evening. Leave 75 minutes before your flight.
Return to RAK
25 min back to airport
  • Leave enough buffer - trains run to a schedule and can be delayed
  • Buy your return ticket in advance if possible
  • Set an alarm 70 min before your departure gate closes
Back through security
~45 min buffer before gate
  • Re-entry security at RAK typically takes 10-20 min
  • Check your gate - it may have changed while you were out
  • Liquids bought in the city cannot pass security - finish or bin them
