At JED, stay airside—large, busy airport where resting and dining beats navigating exits.
Take a taxi or Uber from JED to Al-Balad in 25 to 35 minutes (SAR 35 to 50 / $9 to $14). Al-Balad is a compact UNESCO Heritage district with coral-stone merchant houses, covered alleys, and the Bab Makkah historic gate. Walk the main streets: Al-Alawi, Bab Sharif, and the Souq Al-Jami. Allow 90 minutes in the area. Return for the airport at least 2.5 hours before your departure time.
Al-Balad (90 minutes) plus the Jeddah Corniche waterfront gives a good half-day. The Corniche is 3 km north of Al-Balad and has the King Fahd Fountain view (best at night) and Al-Shallal entertainment area with restaurants. For a meal, the Al-Shallal food court has diverse options from SAR 30 to 70 ($8 to $19). Budget SAR 70 to 100 ($19 to $27) for total transport including taxis between sites.
The Floating Mosque (Al-Rahma, Masjid al-Rahma) sits over the Red Sea off the Corniche and appears to float at high tide. It is a 10-minute taxi from the Corniche area. Naseef House Museum (SAR 25 / $7) is a restored 19th-century merchant house in Al-Balad with exhibits on Jeddah's trading history. Combining both with Al-Balad and the Corniche fills 6 to 7 hours in the city comfortably.
