What we'd tell a friend

Melbourne Airport is clean and functional – nothing more. The SkyBus runs every 10 minutes around the clock from all terminals to Southern Cross Station in about 30 minutes for AU4 each way; book online to save a few dollars. There is still no rail link to the city despite years of promises – do not plan around one existing. If you have 6 hours, Melbourne is genuinely worth the trip: Flinders Lane for coffee, Queen Victoria Market if it’s open (check days and hours), or the Yarra Riverbank precinct. Get back to the airport with 2 hours to spare for international flights – the SkyBus is reliable but security can queue.
