What we'd tell a friend

Hamad International is a genuine destination airport. The Lamp Bear sculpture by Urs Fischer anchors the main concourse, an indoor garden near the central gates has actual trees and seating, and art installations from Qatar Museums’ collection run throughout the terminal. With 6 hours or more, there is no reason to rush to the gate.

The lounges match the airport’s reputation: Al Mourjan (Qatar Airways business/first) and Al Safwa (first class) are legitimately among the best in the world. Priority Pass and paid contract lounges cover everyone else. Lounge showers can book up during morning and evening peak windows; arrive early if a shower is the goal.

Gates are spread across a long terminal, so check your gate number early and factor walking time. Free WiFi is fast with no time limit. Prayer rooms are airside throughout. Luggage storage is available landside if you are leaving the airport. As of early 2026, most nationalities can transit Qatar without a visa for up to 96 hours, but verify current requirements before you travel.
