Snapshot

Frankfurt is a Lufthansa workhorse, not a destination airport. Long terminal walks, occasional bus gates, and immigration queues during Lufthansa peak banks are standard. The S-Bahn earns its keep here: about 10 minutes to Frankfurt Hbf from the terminal station, trains every 15 minutes, no faff.

Lounges

Terminal Lounge Access Showers Good for Price (paid)
T1 Lufthansa Lounges Star Alliance biz/elite Yes (most) Buffet, showers N/A
T1 Primeclass/Other PP lounges PP/Dragon/Paid Some Snacks, drinks About $35-60 USD
T2 Airline/contract lounges Varies Some Snacks, drinks About $35-60 USD

Star Alliance travelers have strong options in T1; pay lounges exist in both terminals.

Traveler notes

  • Long walks and occasional bus gates; check gate early.
  • Security/immigration can bottleneck during Lufthansa peaks; add buffer.

Sleep / Rest

  • Limited quiet seating; lounge or one of the terminal hotels is a better option.

Food

  • German bakeries and standard international chains throughout both terminals. T1 Concourse B has the most variety post-security; arrive a little early to eat properly.

Showers

  • In LH and some contract lounges; some paid shower facilities landside (verify at desk).

Luggage Storage

  • Available landside at T1 and T2; about $6-12 USD per item per day.

Transit to City

  • S-Bahn S8/S9: about 10-15 minutes to Frankfurt Hbf; frequent, cheap, and the most reliable option.
  • ICE (Long Distance): direct trains to Hbf in about 10 minutes from the Fernbahnhof station between terminals.
  • Taxi: 20-40 minutes depending on traffic.
  • Buffer: Back at FRA 3h long-haul, 2h Schengen; add time during peak Lufthansa banks.

Essentials

  • SIM/eSIM: Airport shops in arrivals; eSIM before arrival is cheaper.
  • ATMs: Decline DCC; pay in local currency.
  • Wi-Fi: Free throughout both terminals.
