Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX) opened in 2019 to take pressure off the older Capital Airport, and it sits about 46 km south of central Beijing in Daxing District. Designed to look like a starfish from above, it is one of the world’s largest single-terminal buildings, with five concourses labelled A to E radiating from one central hub across seven floors. It is a major international gateway and a base for China Southern, China Eastern, and other SkyTeam carriers, so you will find plenty of both domestic and long-haul traffic here.
The fastest option is the Daxing Airport Express, the dedicated subway line that reaches Caoqiao Station in about 20 minutes, running roughly every 10 minutes from early morning to around 11pm. From Caoqiao you can transfer to Line 10 or Line 19 to reach the rest of the city, so budget around 30 to 40 minutes total to get into central Beijing. There are also airport shuttle buses to various districts and taxis or ride-hailing, though at this distance a car can take an hour or more in traffic. The whole ground transport hub, trains and taxis below, buses at ground level, sits neatly under the main terminal.
Because everything is under one roof, the terminal feels vast but is genuinely well signed and easy to move through. You will find a good range of Chinese and international food, cafes, duty free, and quiet corners to wait, plus airline lounges for premium and eligible frequent flyers. Free wifi is available, though registration usually needs a phone number or passport scan, so allow a few minutes to get connected. The building is bright and modern with lots of natural light.
Connections here are refreshingly quick for such a big airport. Published minimum connection times are around 30 minutes domestic to domestic, 45 minutes international to international, and 60 minutes when you switch between domestic and international. You rarely walk more than about 10 minutes between gates. If you want to leave and see the city, remember China’s visa and transit rules matter a lot, so check whether you qualify for visa-free transit before planning any trip into Beijing.
