Benito Juarez handles an enormous amount of traffic for its size, and immigration queues peak hard during the 8-11 AM and 5-8 PM arrival banks, where the average wait is around 59 minutes. The airport is only about 5km from central Mexico City, but traffic on Viaducto Río de la Piedad can stretch a taxi ride to 40-50 minutes in rush hour. With 6+ hours and off-peak timing, you can reach Condesa or Centro Histórico and have a real meal in one of the city’s best neighborhoods. Book official airport taxis at the booth inside the terminal; unauthorized drivers operate outside and are not worth the risk. Terminal 2 is the newer and more comfortable of the two terminals.
