SJU is Puerto Rico’s main airport and, because Puerto Rico is a US territory, security and entry procedures follow US rules. No passport control for travelers arriving from the mainland US. The airport is compact, one main terminal complex, and 15 to 30 minutes from Condado or Old San Juan depending on traffic, making it one of the more city-accessible airports on any Caribbean routing.

There is one Priority Pass-eligible lounge. Shower access is limited. If you have 4 or more hours, the quick trip to Old San Juan is worth it: a walled colonial city with good food and sea views. Just allow 2 hours back at SJU before an international departure to be safe.
