Mumbai T2 opened in 2014 and is genuinely impressive: wide, air-conditioned concourses and an art installation called Jaya He that runs throughout the building, 5,000 works of Indian culture displayed airside at no charge. Worth a slow walk between gates if you have time.

What works against a BOM layover is immigration timing and road traffic. Arrival queues at T2 can run 45 to 90 minutes during peak banks, particularly 02:00 to 06:00 when long-haul flights from the Gulf and Europe land in clusters. The road to Bandra or Colaba adds another 45 to 90 minutes by prepaid taxi or Uber, and that estimate doubles in morning peak traffic. Mumbai Metro Line 3 now includes an airport station, which can cut the journey during off-peak hours, though verify current terminal access and station location before travel.
For layovers under 8 hours, staying airside is usually the right call. The food court near T2 departures covers the basics well. GVK Lounge and Priority Pass options have showers and a full buffet service.
