Lyon’s airport connects directly to the city via the Rhônexpress tram, about 30 minutes to Part-Dieu and the city center, costing around €16. That makes Lyon one of the more accessible French cities for a layover stop. Non-Schengen arrivals go through standard French border checks; Schengen travelers move straight through. Security is usually manageable, but add a buffer during morning banks.

There is one main Priority Pass-eligible lounge (Montaigne Lounge) for business class and contract access. It’s modest but functional for a couple of hours before a flight. If you have 6 or more hours, the Old Town of Lyon (Vieux-Lyon) is a short tram ride to Part-Dieu and a metro stop from there, and it is genuinely worth the trip.

French café options and chains in the terminal, quality decent. Free WiFi. Allow 3 hours back at LYS for international departures, 2 hours for Schengen. Taxis are available but the Rhônexpress is faster and more reliable for the city connection. Verify current entry requirements for France if you’re not an EU or Schengen-eligible passport holder.
