Warsaw Chopin Airport

Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW) is Poland’s largest and busiest airport, sitting only about 10 km south of the city center in the Żwirki i Wigury area. It is the main hub for LOT Polish Airlines and serves a full mix of European and long-haul routes. Despite once having separate buildings, it now operates as a single combined passenger terminal (Terminal A), which keeps things straightforward once you are inside.

Getting to Warsaw

• Train: Two operators run from the airport station, SKM and Koleje Mazowieckie (KML). SKM line S2 and S3 head into the city, with the S3 running toward Warszawa Centralna, the main station, in around 20 to 25 minutes. Trains generally run every 15 to 30 minutes.
• Bus: City buses (including line 175 toward the center) are covered by the same ZTM public transport tickets and are handy when a train is not due soon.
• Taxi and rideshare: A ride to the center takes roughly 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic.

Inside the terminal

Chopin is a comfortable, modern airport with a solid spread of cafes, restaurants, and shops both landside and airside. There are several paid lounges, and free wifi is available throughout. It is well signposted in English, and the combined terminal means transfers between areas are manageable on foot.

Layovers and connections

As LOT’s hub, WAW handles plenty of connecting traffic, and connection distances are reasonable within the single terminal. For international transfers, remember Poland is in the Schengen area, so you may clear passport control depending on your route. With the airport so close to the center and a fast train link, even a layover of a few hours can be enough to see a little of the Old Town.
