Galeão is about 20 km from central Rio, on a peninsula, and that geography matters when you’re planning a city stop. Terminal 2 is newer and handles most international traffic. Immigration on arrival can be slow during US-heavy flight banks, often 30 to 60 minutes or more. Plan re-entry time carefully: allow at least 3 hours back at the airport for international departures.

The best lounge option here is the LATAM Golden Lounge in T2, with a full buffet including Brazilian dishes. If you need a shower without lounge access, Aerotel Rio offers shower-only packages on an hourly basis. Getting into the city by metro requires a shuttle or taxi to Vicente de Carvalho station, then about 40 to 50 minutes on Line 2 to the center.
