Cancún is Mexico’s busiest airport by passenger volume, handling around 30 million travelers a year across four terminals. Terminal 3 handles most US and international traffic; Terminal 2 is a mixed domestic/international hub; Terminal 4 serves select carriers and some charters; Terminal 1 handles very few commercial flights. There is no rail link to the city or the Hotel Zone. ground transport is the only option, and the prices in the arrivals hall are fixed by zone.

T3’s Global Lounge is the best option for most international travelers. Moving between terminals requires the inter-terminal bus (free, allow 15 minutes).
Traveler notes
- Peak immigration queues (December to April, July to August) can exceed 90 minutes. Arriving early in the morning typically means shorter waits.
- Timeshare salespeople are active in the arrivals hall. You are not obligated to stop. keep walking.
- Inter-terminal transfers require the free shuttle bus. Allow 15 to 20 minutes between terminals.
Sleep / Rest
- Limited sleep-friendly seating. most benches have armrests. Lounges are the better bet for a comfortable wait.
- For overnight layovers, hotels in the Hotel Zone are 20 to 30 minutes by taxi.
Food
- Mexican and international options in all terminals. Prices are elevated. T3 has the best airside variety.
- Landside options in arrivals are more limited. Buy what you need post-security.
Showers
- Available in The Lounge by Global (T3) and The Lounge (T4). No public shower facilities.
Luggage Storage
- Available landside in T2 and T3. Approximately $8 to $15 USD per bag per day. Confirm hours on arrival.
Transit to City
- ADO bus to downtown Cancún ADO station: every 30 min from T2, T3, T4. About 25 min, MX$110 (~$6 USD). Most straightforward option for downtown.
- Taxi (fixed rate zones): MX$350 to MX$500 to the Hotel Zone, 20 to 30 minutes. MX$220 to downtown. Buy from the official taxi booth inside arrivals, not from touts outside.
- Rideshare (Uber, InDriver): pickup from the parking area, not the arrivals curb. Cheaper for solo travelers; walk past the taxi area to find them.
- ADO to Playa del Carmen: about 70 min, MX$230. Frequent departures from T2 and T3.
- Return buffer: 3 hours before international departure; 2 hours domestic. Queues can be long at T3 during morning departure waves.
Essentials
- Wi-Fi: Free throughout, registration required. Moderate speed.
- SIM / eSIM: Telcel counters in arrivals. Tourist SIMs available. eSIM (Airalo, Holafly) is significantly cheaper if bought before travel.
- ATMs: Available in all terminals. Withdraw MXN directly; decline dynamic currency conversion.
