The insider's guide, from travelers who've actually been through.
Sydney Airport Link is the airport transit story that other cities wish they had. From T1 International, trains run every 10 minutes and reach Central Station in 13 minutes. The ticket costs A$22.60 from T1 (most of that is a built-in Gate Pass surcharge, not the fare distance). Pay by contactless or Opal card. SmartGate e-passport lanes process eligible passport holders in 5 to 10 minutes, making even a tight layover potentially viable for a quick city visit.

T1 International is a complete terminal. Qantas operates both a Business and a First lounge here, and Plaza Premium covers Priority Pass holders with showers and a full buffet. The airside food runs from flat whites and avocado toast to proper sit-down options: Mach2, Kitchen by Mike, and Better Burger Co near Gate 55 are all reliable. The Aeroquay Level 3 food court has additional variety before security.
T2 and T3 (domestic terminals) are a short walk or free T-Bus ride from T1. The bus runs every 10 minutes; budget 15 minutes for the terminal transfer if you have a domestic connection.
