Terminal A at Zayed International, open since 2023, is a significant upgrade over older Gulf airport layouts. Smart Gate biometrics clear eligible passports (US, UK, EU, Canada, Australia, and others) in under 5 minutes off-peak, and the midfield concourse has solid food options from Jones the Grocer and Shake Shack to Emirati plates at Al Dhabi Restaurant. Taxis from the rank outside arrivals are metered and include the AED 20 airport toll; Careem and Uber pick up from the short-term parking area near Pillar 8. Abu Dhabi city center is 25-35 minutes away in normal traffic, making a 6-hour-plus layover genuinely useful.
