Singapore
Immaculate streets, world-class food, and futuristic design.
Before you plan a trip into the city
Destination airport
SIN is a sight in itself. You may not need to leave at all.
The best of Singapore starts before you exit. Standout experiences sit right inside the terminals, many of them free.

Your layover plan
Follow signs to passport control immediately on landing
Have onward boarding pass and hotel/address ready for questions
Processes are typically efficient; peak arrival waves can add queue time.
MRT access makes downtown trips predictable; taxis are easy but can slow in peak traffic.
Changi is one of the best airports to be stuck in. Stay airside and enjoy it.
The Jewel (T1 connector, no immigration needed): 40m indoor Rain Vortex waterfall, Shake Shack, A&W — free to enter T3 food court (B2, post-security): hawker-style plates from S$8, open 24 hours Butterfly garden and cactus garden are free in T2 and T3 — good for 30 minutes of wandering
Changi airside genuinely competes with leaving at this window — but a fast city dash is possible.
Airside: Jewel Rain Vortex, Changi food courts, or terminal gardens — all free and stress-free City dash: MRT East-West Line to City Hall is 30 min, S$2.20. Stick to Marina Bay area only Back at airport 75 min before departure — SIN immigration is fast but do not cut it close Get an EZ-Link card at the airport MRT station for tap-in speed
A proper Singapore city visit. Marina Bay and Gardens by the Bay together take 3-4 hours comfortably.
MRT to City Hall (30 min, S$2.20) or Bayfront (35 min, S$2.50) for Marina Bay Sands and Gardens Gardens by the Bay outdoor grounds are free; Cloud Forest and Flower Dome cost S$28 combined Chinatown or Little India are 35-40 min from the airport by MRT and easy to navigate on foot Transit is so reliable that 60 min back-to-airport buffer is enough
Singapore is one of the easiest long-layover cities: safe, efficient, and excellent food at every price point.
Chinatown and Kampong Glam (Arab Street) are walkable from each other — allow 3 hours for both Maxwell Food Centre and Lau Pa Sat hawker centres: the best value meals in the city, S$4-10 a plate Little India is 35 min from the airport by MRT and very different from the city centre 60 min return to airport is safe — SIN runs like clockwork
Leave enough buffer - trains run to a schedule and can be delayed
Buy your return ticket in advance if possible
Set an alarm 50 min before your departure gate closes
Re-entry security at SIN typically takes 10-20 min
Check your gate - it may have changed while you were out
Liquids bought in the city cannot pass security - finish or bin them
