Frankfurt is a Lufthansa workhorse built for connections, not comfort. The S-Bahn is the highlight: S8 and S9 run every 15 minutes, cost EUR 4.90 to Frankfurt Hbf, and take 11 minutes. The train station is inside the terminal complex, so there are no buses or shuttles to worry about. What the airport lacks is personality: food is expensive and unremarkable, terminal walks are long, and bus gates at the remote Z concourse add real time.

Know your concourse before you land. A and B gates are a 10 to 20 minute walk depending on where you start. Z gates (remote) require a bus ride and operate on their own schedule: departures from Z can take 30 to 45 minutes from security to boarding. If you have a tight connection into Z, flag it. Immigration at T1 for non-Schengen arrivals runs at an unpredictable pace; allow at least 60 minutes during peak Lufthansa bank hours (typically 06:00-10:00 and 13:00-17:00 CET).

Free WiFi works well throughout the terminal. Showers are available in lounge day passes and at some paid facilities near the main check-in halls. Prayer rooms are located airside in T1. If you are heading into Frankfurt city, taxis cost around EUR 30 to 45 and take 20 to 35 minutes in normal traffic. For the return, add buffer on Monday mornings and Friday afternoons when the Autobahn approach to the airport backs up. Allow 2.5 hours before international departure as a baseline. As of early 2026, verify transit and entry requirements for your nationality, as Schengen rules apply to non-EU arrivals.
