Is it worth leaving the airport?
- Leave with 7+ hours. Under that, stay airside.
- Visa: Schengen rules; US/UK/EU/Canada/Australia visa-free. Others must meet Schengen rules.
- Luggage: VCE storage available; check arrivals.
- Transit: 20-30 minutes to Piazzale Roma by taxi/bus; water transport to core takes longer. Allow extra time.
3-5 hours: stay airside
Espresso, snacks, lounge for showers/Wi‑Fi. Gate 40 minutes before boarding.
6-9 hours: quick Venice stroll
Bus/taxi to Piazzale Roma, then walk into Santa Croce/San Polo for canals and Rialto area. Cicchetti at a bacaro (~€8-15). Leave 4 hours before departure to buffer walking/boats back.
10+ hours: add St. Mark’s exterior
Longer walk or vaporetto to St. Mark’s Square exterior. Keep it tight; return with a large buffer for transport back to VCE.
Getting there and back
- Bus to Piazzale Roma: ~€8-10; ~20-30 minutes.
- Taxi: Faster but costlier; water taxis are expensive; use only if needed and with buffer.

- Currency: EUR; cards widely accepted.
