Is it worth leaving the airport?

• Leave with 6+ hours. Under that, stay airside.
• Visa: US, UK, EU, Canada, Australia are visa-free for short visits. Others must meet Brazil entry rules.
• Luggage: Malex in T2 arrivals, about $10 USD / 50 BRL per day.
• Transit: 40-70 minutes to Paulista/Liberdade by taxi/app; bus 60-80 minutes.

3-5 hours: stay airside

Pão de queijo, coffee, lounge for Wi‑Fi/showers (GOL Premium, LATAM, Amex). Be at the gate 40 minutes before boarding.

6-9 hours: Paulista walk and coffee

Taxi/app to Avenida Paulista. Walk the avenue, quick stop at Japan House or IMS. Eat at Bela Paulista or a prato feito nearby. Coffee at Octavio or Santo Grão. Leave 4 hours before your flight.

10+ hours: add Liberdade and Mercadão

Start in Liberdade for snacks, then taxi to Municipal Market for mortadella or pastel. Short daylight loop through the historic core, then back with a big traffic buffer.

• Taxi/App: $20-35 USD / 100-175 BRL; 40-70 minutes.
• Airport Bus (EMTU): ~$7 USD / 35 BRL; 60-80 minutes; less flexible.

Money and budget

• Currency: BRL; cards widely accepted; carry 50-100 BRL cash.
• 6-9h: ~$58 USD / 290 BRL (rides, meal, coffee/snack).
• 10h+: ~$78-88 USD / 390-440 BRL (rides, meals, extras).

Logistics and safety
