Muscat Layover Guide: What to Do at Muscat Airport

Is it worth leaving the airport?

  • Leave with 6+ hours. Under that, stay airside.
  • Visa: Check Oman transit/visa rules; many nationalities can use e-visa/VOA. If not eligible, stay airside.
  • Luggage: Arrivals storage; verify at airport or travel light.
  • Transit: 20-35 minutes to Muttrah corniche by taxi/app.

3-5 hours: stay airside

Grab a meal, coffee, and use a lounge for showers/Wi‑Fi. Gate 40 minutes before boarding.

6-9 hours: Muttrah corniche

Taxi/app to Muttrah. Walk the corniche, quick stop at Muttrah Souq for a look and small bites. Leave 3-4 hours before departure.

10+ hours: add Old Muscat exterior loop

After Muttrah, short taxi to Old Muscat area (Al Alam Palace exterior views). Return with buffer.
