Downtown stroll, maybe a park loop, and back to YYC with time to spare.

Is it worth leaving the airport?

• Leave with 6+ hours. Under that, stay airside.
• Visa/eTA: Canada entry required; eTA/visa if applicable.
• Luggage: Use YYC storage or travel light.
• Transit: 25-40 minutes to downtown by taxi/app; bus is slower.

3-5 hours: stay airside

Eat, coffee, lounge for showers/Wi‑Fi. Gate 40 minutes before boarding.

6-9 hours: Stephen Avenue + park

Taxi/app to Stephen Avenue area. Short walk, maybe Olympic Plaza or Prince’s Island Park if quick. Grab a steak sandwich or casual meal (~$15-25 CAD). Leave 3 hours before departure.

10+ hours: add Calgary Tower exterior or Kensington stroll

After downtown, quick view near Calgary Tower (exterior) or hop to Kensington for coffee. Return with buffer.

Getting there and back

• Taxi/Rideshare: ~$25-45 USD / 33-60 CAD; 25-40 minutes.
• Bus: Slower; not ideal for tight layovers.

Money and budget

• Currency: CAD; cards universal.
• 6-9h: ~$40-65 USD / 55-85 CAD (rides, meal/snack).
• 10h+: ~$55-85 USD / 75-115 CAD (rides, meals, extras).

Logistics and safety

• Immigration: Canada entry; allow time.
• Return: Back at YYC 2h domestic, 3h international.
• Safety: Downtown is fine; normal awareness.

• Food: Standard chains, coffee.
• Rest: Lounges best.
