Etihad's new Terminal A lounges are excellent — among the best in the Gulf. PP holders have solid options in Al Dhabi and Pearl Lounges, both open 24 hours.

Traveler notes

  • Terminal A is enormous — allow 15–20 minutes to walk between distant gates.
  • Smart Gates available for UAE residents and eligible nationalities; immigration is generally fast.
  • Etihad connections are well-managed; transit passengers stay airside.

  • AUHotel: Airside transit hotel in Terminal A — bookable by the hour, no visa needed.
  • Etihad lounges have rest areas and recliners.
  • Novotel Abu Dhabi Gate nearby for longer waits (requires clearing immigration).

  • Terminal A has a wide range: Arabic, Asian, Western chains, and specialty cafés in the central Skypark area.
  • 24-hour options available landside and airside.

  • Baggage storage available landside in Terminal A; approximately AED 50–75 per bag per day.

Transit to City

  • Taxi: ~30 minutes to downtown Abu Dhabi, around AED 80 (~$22 USD). Metered.
  • Bus A1 Express: Runs 24/7 to central bus station, ~45 minutes, AED 4 ($1 USD).
  • Abu Dhabi to Dubai: ~90 min by taxi (~AED 300) or intercity bus.
  • Buffer: Back at AUH 3h international, 2h domestic.

  • SIM/eSIM: Etisalat and du counters in arrivals; tourist SIMs ~AED 55. eSIM works well here.
  • ATMs: Plentiful in Terminal A; AED dispensed. Decline DCC.
