Sydney's main airport, located just 9 km from the city center. Three separate terminals: T1 (International), T2 (Domestic), T3 (Domestic). Excellent train link to the city. Qantas hub with premium lounge options. One of the best airport-to-city connections in the world.

Qantas lounges are world-class. Plaza Premium is the best option for PP holders on international side. Virgin Australia lounge good for domestic.

Traveler notes

  • T1 (International) is separate from T2 and T3 (Domestic). Free transfer bus runs every 15 min (~10 min journey).
  • Immigration is generally efficient; SmartGate available for eligible nationalities (Australian, NZ, UK, US, etc.).
  • Security queues can be long during peak hours (6–10 AM, 3–6 PM).
  • Airport Link train is one of the best in the world — highly recommended.

  • No airside sleep pods or transit hotel in terminals.
  • Premier Inn Sydney Airport T2 is connected to T2; day rooms available (~A$60–100).
  • Several hotels at the airport with free shuttles.

  • Excellent Australian café culture: flat whites, avocado toast, breakfast all day.
  • Asian options, fusion food, and quality coffee throughout. T1 has the best variety.

  • Qantas International Business and First lounges have showers. Plaza Premium has shower access.

  • Luggage storage (Smarte Carte) in T1 arrivals; approximately A$15–25 per bag per day depending on size.

Transit to City

  • Airport Link train: 13 minutes to Central Station, runs every 10 min, ~A$18–20.
  • Taxi/Uber: ~20–30 minutes to CBD depending on traffic, around A$50–70.
  • Airport shuttle buses: Less common but available; ~30 min to central areas.
  • Buffer: Back at SYD 2.5h international, 1.5h domestic.

Essentials

  • SIM/eSIM: Telstra, Optus, Vodafone counters in T1 and T2 arrivals. eSIM recommended.
  • ATMs: AUD dispensed; contactless payment is universal — most places accept cards only.
  • Wi‑Fi: Free (30 min sessions, repeatable), decent speed.
