Is it worth leaving the airport?

  • Leave with 7+ hours. Under that, stay airside.

  • Luggage: Arrivals storage; check at CPT.
  • Transit: 20-40 minutes to V&A Waterfront by taxi; traffic varies.

3-5 hours: stay airside

Grab coffee/food, use a lounge for showers/Wi‑Fi. Gate 40 minutes before boarding.

6-9 hours: V&A Waterfront

Taxi to the Waterfront. Stroll the harbor, quick meal (fish, peri-peri, or café bite ~ $12-18 USD / 220-330 ZAR). Leave 3-4 hours before departure.

10+ hours: add Bo-Kaap exterior loop

After the Waterfront, short taxi to Bo-Kaap for colorful houses (photos). If time, a brief stop near Company’s Garden. Return with buffer.
